Laprévotte guitare - website

The early 19th century saw the emergence of two leading figures in the world of guitar-making: Étienne Laprévotte (1799–1860) and René Lacôte (active 1820–1853). Laprévotte, who took part in numerous international competitions, was constantly striving to improve the sound of his guitars.
This earned him numerous awards. He invented a guitar with a round body and headstock. The back is made of domed maple.

The headstock of this guitar was modified in the 19th century; it likely originally had a figure-eight headstock. The neck and headstock were always made of solid mahogany; the signature on the headstock, ‘H.JOURNET’, is the name of a famous 19th-century guitarist and mandolinist.
The bridge is not original; the back is made of maple, arched like a violin – this was Laprevotte’s distinctive feature; he crafted his guitars from solid wood, much like violins. The tuning pegs are made of ivory.
